THE SWAMIS' TEACHINGS ARE A BLESSING I hope you were able to attend either or both of Swami Viditatmanandaji and Swami Tattvavidanandaji' s talks and seminars during the last 2 months. Such Mahatmas are rare, even in India; in addition to the clarity of the vision what makes them special is the ability to impart the vision to listeners. Our particular congratulations are to all new people that were introduced to the sampradaya of this teaching. We hope that you can continue this enquiry into what constitutes a successful life and how best to achieve it. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need further information on Arsha Vidya books, audio material, assistance to visit our teaching centers, or to start a Gita home study group. NEW VEDANTA COURSES OF CLASSES TO START ON SAT SEPT. 12 I am happy to announce the start of two Vedanta courses of classes from Sat. Sept 12. One is for continuing students and the other for those who are relatively new to the subject matter. Both courses will run for approximately a year, and will supplement the teachings you received from the 2 Swamis. The teachings are consistent, since we are all disciples of the same guru, Pujya Swami Dayanandaji. Actually, on Sept 12 we will have a common session from 8 to 10 AM for both the courses. (All classes will be in classroom A-B in the Jain Bhawan, 722 S Main Milpitas.) It will:
The weekly classes will begin on Sat Sept 26 (I will be away to the Saylorsburg ashram on the 19th). Let me briefly describe the 2 series of classes; this we will discuss in more detail when we meet on Sept 12. Let me say that anyone is welcome to attend any class - the prerequisites are only to help you get more out of each course. KENOPANISAD Time: 8 to 9:30 AM. Content: Kenopanisad verses will be chanted, meanings unfolded, and thoughts from important commentators brought in, including notes from Pujya Swami Dayanandaji' s classes, as well as from an important book called Atma Purana by Swami Sankarananda (Sri Vidyaranya's guru in the 14th century). Even though the teaching will be in English, Sanskrit words will be used liberally in explanations. Several versions (some with just the verses, some also with commentary) of the text will be available. Meditations, when done, will assume basic preparation. Prerequisites: Students should have been attending my classes regularly, or new students who have been attending the talks by the 2 visiting Swamis, and feel they have built up a foundation of Vedanta (such as 3 states, 5 kosas) by other teachers. I will assume such foundation as part of the explanations. INTRODUCTION TO VEDANTA - A REVIEW OF THE BHAGAVAD GITA Time: 10:45 AM to 12:15 PM Content: Based on a series of public talks given by Pujya Swami Dayanandaji in Mumbai in the 70's, later turned into a book called 'The Teaching of the Bhagavad Gita'. Says Swami Viditatmananda, the editor, in his Foreword to the text, "This being a condensed transcription of all 18 chapters of the Gita, the reader can have a total vision of the Gita as well as of the individual, predominant topic discussed in each chapter." This will prepare the student for more advanced Vedantic study. The course will also introduce the basics of meditation.
Prerequisites: Just a willingness to learn. I recommend that most people should start with this systematic, foundation-building course.
